Canada’s Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence Public Awareness Working Group

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an important part of our future in Canada and we want to hear from your members.

The Government of Canada’s Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence Public Awareness Working Group, in partnership with the CIFAR and Algora Lab (University of Montreal), is launching Open Dialogue: Artificial Intelligence in Canada, a series of virtual workshops to better understand the public’s perceptions of AI.

The workshops will take place from March 30 to April 30, 2021.

  • What: Open Dialogue: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Canada (2.5 hour workshops)
  • When: March 30 to April 30, 2021
  • Where: Online via Zoom or by telephone
  • Who: Adults over the age of 18.
  • Register: opendialogueai.ca

The views and opinions gathered in these workshops will be included in a report by the Public Awareness Working Group and submitted to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry. The report will be publicly available on the website of the Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence in summer 2021.

Dr. Safiya Noble is an Associate Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the Department of Information Studies. She is the co-founder and co-director of the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry (C2i2). The keynote is moderated by Dr. Marie desJardins, Dean of the College of Organizational, Computational, and Information Sciences.

The Allen Smith Symposium is hosted by the Simmons University School of Library and Information Science, the College of Organizational, Computational, and Information Sciences.

AI4Society and KIAS are proud to announce the Ethics E-Symposium Know Thyself as a Virtual Reality. As we work towards creating a set of ethical guidelines for working creatively with medical scan data in VR, we will be troubling some of the ethical issues surrounding health data ownership and privacy with a full-day e-Symposium.
