In a collaborative effort with the Faculty of Law and the Digital Law & Innovation Society we are proud to announce this four event excellent forum that will focus on how AI affects decision-making in public institutions.

It brings together law, technology, and governance reform experts for an interdisciplinary look at legal liability, regulation and the reform of public institutions in a digital age.

We will have the honor of having as panelist Digital Lead and Special Advisor for the Benefits Delivery Modernization program at Service Canada in Ottawa Pia Andrews, amongst with Jason Fung, Blair Neufeld, Argyri Panezi, and Professor Péter Szigeti.

Hosted by Dr. Lianne M. Lefsrud, From Social Platforms Chatter to Information is a workshop that will discuss study of social platforms to examine their role in mobilizing knowledge, sharing information, and influencing opinions. We also encourage you to invite students, colleagues, and anyone else you think may be interested in this broad field. The objective of the workshop is to make everyone aware of each other's work and to help form clusters of researchers that may be interested in pursuing grant applications together.

To help with introductions, we kindly ask you to bring one slide about your team, the research questions you are interested in, and the social platforms (broadly conceived) that you are analyzing.

AIMSS would like to invite you to our second annual AI in Healthcare Symposium! To be held virtually on March 12 and 13, 2021. CIHR: Health Research Training Platform Pilot

With the HRTP Pilot, CIHR will support the development of research leaders of tomorrow by equipping trainees and early career researchers (ECRs) with the experiences and skills needed to lead high-impact, interdisciplinary health research careers in a rapidly evolving research landscape.

Replaying Japan 2021

Are you interested in Japanese game culture? The ninth international Replaying Japan Conference will be held online August 9-13 2021 - hosted by the University of Alberta. This year’s theme is Artificial Intelligence in Japanese Games. We invite submissions to be submitted to replayingjapan@gmail.com as a MS Word Document. The abstract should be no more than 500 words.
Replaying Japan 2021 is being organized by a partnership of the AI4Society signature area, the Prince Takamado Japan Centre (PTJC), and the Kule Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS) at the University of Alberta. It is organized in collaboration with the Ritsumeikan Center for Game Studies, the University of Delaware, Bath Spa University, Seijoh University, University of Liège, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and DiGRA Japan.

Call For Proposals: Ethics in the Age of Smart Systems Symposium

In collaborative partnership, the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society in Berlin, the AI4Society Signature Area at the University of Alberta, and the Center for Digital Ethics and Policy at Loyola University Chicago are co-organizing a Symposium on Ethics Dialogues in the Age of Smart Systems. This Symposium also marks the 10th Annual International symposium for the Center for Digital Ethics and Policy (#CDEP10th) and is the first convening of virtual delegates for this online gathering.
This Symposium brings together researchers from Canada, the USA and Germany and beyond working in the interdisciplinary area of AI, ethics and policy. We welcome papers that deal with systemic issues around the social impact and ethics of big data, automated systems, artificial intelligence, and robotics. It builds on the Ethics Dialogues series that have been running since February 2021.

Call for expressions of interest: Establishing multidisciplinary artificial intelligence for development labs (AI4D labs) in Africa

This call for expressions of interest is open to public universities from low and lower-middle income countries in Africa with demonstrated expertise in the subjects that are critical for responsible AI research, education, and innovation.
Only universities that meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the call document should submit an expression of interest to host the AI4D labs.

Postdoctoral Fellow at UAlberta - Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute Postdoctoral Fellow

The Department of Computing Science and Amii, at the University of Alberta, has an immediate opening for one or two postdoctoral fellows to work with the Amii Fellows in multiple areas of Artificial Intelligence research.

The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) is one of three centers of excellence in the Pan-Canadian AI strategy. Amii is establishing an Amii-wide post-doc position for post-docs to work with the Amii Fellows. One strength of Amii is the collaborative nature of the centre. Thus, the ideal candidate will work with two or more fellows to conduct novel and transformative research.

Software developer for AI Ethics

Ethically Aligned AI has an immediate opening for a contractor to work on project development of a new AI product. Ethically Aligned AI is a social enterprise startup that is focused on helping organizations build and deploy certifiably better AI systems.
The developer will work with a small multi-disciplinary group in developing a new product for Responsible AI, with technical guidance by Prof. Nidhi Hegde. EAAI is developing a new set of tools for validation of AI products along AI ethics measures and will produce a prototype for one such tool.
