I am an assistant professor in English and Film Studies and the current head of the Digital Humanities Program at the University of Alberta.  My most recent book, The Burden of Choice: Recommendations, Subversion, and Algorithmic Culture (Rutgers, 2019) historicizes the recommendation system, its role in structuring digital culture, and how it has shaped the concept of choice in precarious times.
