Barry Scholnick is a Full Professor of Business Economics in the Alberta School of Business, University of Alberta. His PhD in Economics is from the University of Cambridge. His main area of research is on Household Finance, with an emphasis on the use of big data and analytics. His research has examined a variety of very large, individual level databases, including; bankruptcy data, credit record data, bank account data, insurance claim data, corporate registry data and lottery data. Given the very confidential nature of these databases, he has built up a specific expertise in the appropriate utilization and protection of such sensitive data, when undertaking academic research. Using these very large, individual level, databases, he has published in top academic journals, including the Review of Financial Studies and the Review of Economics and Statistics, and has been awarded multiple SSHRC grants.
