Project Overview
FinTech4Society is a team of academics, united by one common goal: to understand what AI can bring to the emerging field combining finance and technology known as Fintech. A main topic is the interplay between algorithmic decisions and the socio-economic environment, as illustrated by the following examples:
- Recent advances in natural language processing are used more and more in financial markets.
- In some markets, financial institutions may have access to sophisticated algorithms, while households do not have such possibilities.
- New educational technologies are gaining ground in industrial practices.
- When new algorithms are developed, privacy of individuals may not always be adequately protected.
The following research questions are of particular importance:
- How do outcomes of algorithms affect financial markets and the economy?
- How does a machine think differently from a human and what are the consequences of this difference?
- How does bias in machine learning and the underlying data affect outcomes?
- How do economic agents value privacy and how does AI affect this valuation?
Thanks to the various backgrounds of the team members, these questions will be tackled using a range of different methodologies, from AI techniques to empirical methods to theoretical analyses.
